Who is Simplicity KiwiSaver?
Simplicity NZ Limited is the issuer of the Simplicity KiwiSaver Scheme and the Simplicity Investment Funds. Founded by former Tower Investments CEO Sam Stubbs, Simplicity operates as a nonprofit organization, reinvesting profits to benefit members. The organization is based in Auckland, New Zealand, and is committed to providing low-cost, ethical investment options to its members.
Simplicity KiwiSaver Scheme
The Simplicity KiwiSaver Scheme offers a range of six diversified funds: Defensive, Conservative, Default, Balanced, Growth, and High Growth. Each fund is designed to cater to different risk appetites and investment horizons. Simplicity operates as a nonprofit KiwiSaver manager, charging members low fees. Their low-cost structure aims to maximize returns for members. Notably, the Simplicity KiwiSaver Growth Fund achieved strong returns over the year ending 31 December 2023, ranking 1st among 26 growth funds for one-year performance and 3rd among 18 funds for five-year performance.
How Does Simplicity Invest?
Simplicity employs a primarily passive investment strategy, utilizing index funds to achieve broad market exposure. Their funds are highly diversified, with more than 4,000 investments across 20 countries. The investment approach focuses on long-term growth while maintaining low fees. Simplicity also applies a negative screening process to exclude investments in companies or industries that may have wider negative effects on the environment or society.

Simplicity is committed to responsible investing. They implement a negative screening approach, excluding investments in companies or industries that may have wider negative effects on the environment or society. This includes the use of ESG-screened indices for global portfolios and applying equivalent rules to directly managed portfolios. In 2024, Simplicity adopted a climate change strategy to identify and manage climate-related risks and opportunities within their investment portfolios.
