MAS KiwiSaver
About MAS
MAS is a New Zealand-owned mutual organisation that has been serving its members for over 100 years. As a mutual, MAS is owned by its members, meaning profits are reinvested to benefit members and support initiatives like the MAS Foundation, which focuses on health and wellbeing equity in Aotearoa.
MAS KiwiSaver Scheme
The MAS KiwiSaver Scheme offers a range of actively managed funds designed to cater to various investor profiles. Each fund has a distinct investment mix, allowing members to choose an option that aligns with their risk tolerance and investment goals. The scheme emphasises active management, aiming to outperform the market and deliver higher returns for members’ KiwiSaver accounts.
How Does MAS Invest?
MAS employs an active investment strategy, focusing on identifying and investing in companies with strong environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. The investment team conducts thorough research to determine the optimal mix of assets, aiming to balance potential risk and return for investors while taking a responsible approach to the companies they invest in. MAS partners with some of the world’s largest investment managers, such as BlackRock for international equities and PIMCO for international fixed interest, to manage its funds.
Does MAS Invest Responsibly?
MAS integrates responsible investment principles into its KiwiSaver Scheme. The Responsible Investment Policy outlines the integration of ESG factors into the investment process. MAS actively excludes investments in sectors such as fossil fuels, weapons, and tobacco. Additionally, MAS uses shareholder influence to drive positive change within the companies it invests in, advocating for human rights, labour rights, anti-corruption, and environmental sustainability.
Notably, the MAS KiwiSaver Scheme has been recognised for its responsible investment approach, with all eligible funds certified by the Responsible Investment Association of Australasia (RIAA) and recognised as ‘Mindful’ by Mindful Money.
